conversations with a six year-old

Lyrics of the song on the car radio, mg sort-of singing along: Give me your eyes for just one minute, give me your eyes that I can see, everything that I've been missing, give me your love for humanity.

me: marsh, do you know what that guy is singing about?

mg: ummm...not really.

me: it's like he's talking to God. asking God to let him see things the way God sees them. he wants to understand the people around him better and be able to treat them with love.

mg: hmm.

(I have to preface this part by saying that MG told us about a scene he witnessed in McDonalds the other day. He stopped in for a sweet tea and the guy behind the counter was telling an old lady that he didn't mean to make her cup of coffee bad--he said it in a nice way. then he turned around and started muttering and cussing. then he turned to ask her a question and was very nice to her face. when he turned his back on her again, more muttering, cussing, maybe spitting. MG said it was WEIRD. Like there was something really wrong with the guy.)

me: like when dad saw that guy at mcdonalds. dad just thought he was crazy but maybe he was having a really bad day. Like maybe his grandma just died or one of his friends is really sick.

mg: (thinking, then...) or maybe it was his grandpa that died.

me: yeah (?)

mg: and maybe he was a wrestler.

me: hmmmm...

mg: like one you see on tv.

me: silence, waiting.

mg: and maybe he was killed by a really bad choke hold.

me: more silence.

mg: yeah that's probably what happened.

Glad to know he got the point.

Indiana and Ike

MG starts his new job tomorrow. He's staying with our friends, the Lammerts, who are currently without electricity. Oddly, Ike hit the coast, ripping the roof off of MG's mom's condo and then headed 1200 miles northeast and knocked out power in Indiana. We are so glad Joan is safe and while I'm sure she's a little sad, she knows her stuff is just that...stuff.

We're praying for MG's first day to go well. Praying that we find the right house in the right spot. Tentative moving date is October 19.

Fletcher

Love this happy, surprise, sweet, full of hugs baby.

First Dress

Caroline wearing the dress I made for Rinn. She didn't want to try it on and certainly didn't want to have her picture taken. Sweet Rinn has adorable red hair and before I put the sash on the dress it was looking very 'Mrs. Roper'. This was also the first time I used the ruffler foot.

Marsh+Max+Mud=Happiness

Marshall and his buddy, Max, love mud. This was the first day. The second day looked similar. Underneath the mud Marshall's shorts are camo--MG claimed he scooped a half cup of mud out of mg's pockets when he washed them out.
